Central Iowa Garden Railway Society

CIGRS is a not for profit garden railroading club established in 1997.

CIGRS meets on a regular basis for business meetings or a social gathering in a member's backyard to enjoy their garden railroad. Our train enthusiasm encompasses like minded people building garden railroads and sharing the hobby. Each garden railroad is unique to the owner.

A garden railroad can be theme based, steam or diesel; a particular era to be modeled with scratch built buildings. Some are designed to mirror an actual working railroad or a garden setting with flora, fauna, or a water feature to enhance the movement of a train through the landscape.

CIGRS is present at the Merle Hay Mall located in Des Moines. Behind a store front we designed and built a modular layout with a double mainline track. We share our layout and model train hobby on Sunday afternoon from Noon to 3:00 p.m. Come see the trains run!

CIGRS hosts an annual garden railroad TOUR the fourth Saturday of June. The public is cordially invited to visit six garden railroads in the Central Iowa Area.

Take a chance and see what's going on in a neighborhood near you!
